Women in Design Installation

After spending several semesters researching women in design history, I wanted to create a meaningful representation of women in design because we take up so little space in history books despite often playing at least a strong supporting role if not a more significant role in design history. Women are minimized in so many ways culturally as well as within art and design so I wanted something that would do the opposite. I built basically a monument to women in design focusing on equal billing not matter whether you were famous or not. The build is modular so it can be assembled in any way I might want. I started with a room but have plans for other interpretations. The rooms was 8’x8’x7’. It features almost 1,500 names of women in design both famous and potentially unknown side by side.
