OPS 160th Anniversary Mural

Omaha Public Schools (OPS) celebrated their 160th anniversary in 2019. To commemorate this feat and the strides made by the district over time, OPS commissioned a mural in the Teacher Administration Center located in Downtown Omaha. The mural consists of 5 panels, with each panel recounting 40 years worth of OPS history anda final panel to envision the future.

Goal: This project aims to increase awareness for Omaha Public School’s 160th anniversary celebration and its new mural installation.

Overview of the project: OPS teamed up with Jacht Advertising Agency to create a brochure, two videos, a public relations launch plan, and a website to showcase the mural.

Strategies: Omaha Public School’s 160th anniversary celebration and its new mural installation. The strategy aimed to draw attention from OPS’s more than 53,000 students to get them excited to learn more about their school’s history and be proud of where they’ve been, where they are, and where they’re going. The brochure would complement a mural viewer’s experience, while the videos would show behind the scenes footage of its creation. The site would offer more in-depth information, and the strategy would make the entire celebration and deliverables live.

Tactics: The spring team developed a plan to create a brochure, website, and public relations plan to accomplish this. The summer team created the public relations strategy, the toolkit and began work on two videos about the mural. The fall team finalized the two videos, created PR graphics, and added future content to the brochure and website.
